The EoL (end-of-life) of Magento 1 has been on our radar since its announcement in 2018. While we have already migrated our clients over to the new Magento 2, we want to advise ALL users that are still on Magento 1 that their time is running out.
We’re not alone in this – Visa is also urging merchants to migrate their online stores before the EoL date.
The fact is that Magento 1 has an expiration date – June 2020 – and if your site is not migrated to Magento 2 before then, you will no longer be PCI compliant and your store could be exposed to Magecart attacks.
“Any sites that have failed to migrate will be vulnerable to security breaches and pose an increased risk to the security of payment card data. Acquirers should use this information to take risk-based decisions and encourage their merchants to migrate to a supported version or alternate platform to remain PCI compliant.”

While we do want to imply a sense of urgency in this – it’s a good thing! The new Magento platform has definitely improved and offers many new resources. In a recent article, we discuss the benefits of migrating to Magento 2. New integrations, improved performance, and a more user-friendly platform all await you on the other side.
Our Magento Experience
ExtraDigital have worked with many clients in a range of sectors who use Magento. We have migrated clients from Magento 1 to Magento 2, and we have also built new websites on Magento 2.
We built our first eCommerce website for a client back in 2005. At this time there were no plugins available and all customisation was done in-house. Throughout the next 14 years we have built and maintained a range of different Magento websites, specialising in those requiring custom integrations or less common requirements:
- Warehouse order fulfilment integration (with Apollo)
- Product license key generated by the country
- Product licensing integration (Adobe)
- Product listing by track (for music)
- Products grouped by tops and bottoms (Bikinis)
- Stock management integration (Merlin)
- Custom integrations with CRM systems
- Custom integration with stock-order systems
We also specialise in multilingual websites – so Magento stores in Arabic, German, French, etc.
Our three most experienced developers have been working on Magento development for eleven, ten and seven years, respectively.
We see clients excel best when all of their digital marketing parts are working together. Building or migrating your site is the first step – looking past this you will need a strong marketing strategy to drive traffic to your site and boost revenue. SEO, email marketing, social media marketing, and technical support are all important parts to consider.
